To lead to Taylor Swift’s success, she had to face difficult issues in controlling her songs and how they were used. The whole story behind Taylor’s Version entails the issues with her former music manager, Scooter Braun. Swift began her career as a musician at Big Machine Records when she was 15. The drama started in June 2019 when it was announced that Braun’s media company, Ithaca Holdings, acquired Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records for $300 million. Through this deal, Scooter Braun became the new owner of Swift’s first six albums: Taylor Swift (debut), Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation. This means that all of Swift’s hard work through her young years is not “hers” anymore. In August 2019, the singer-songwriter announced plans to re-record her first six albums to regain the rights to her masters and own what she made.
Swift started calling out the evil act on Scooter Braun in a Tumblr post on November 14, 2019. In this post, she stated, “Anytime Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did.” She also accuses Braun of “incessant manipulative bullying for years.” After this feud, many celebrities started to take sides, and some of Swift’s so-called friends were taking Braun’s side, specifically her ex-best friend Karlie Kloss. Now they have bad blood. On the other hand, she often thanks the fans for their great support and says her recordings are a “passion project” of hers, and she feels so lucky to get such great support throughout all of her re-releases.
Swift started her stand to re-record her first six albums and released Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in April 2021. Later on, she released Red (Taylor’s Version) in November 2021 and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in July 2023. In August 2023, she announced that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) would be released in October 2023, and rumors from Swifties believe Reputation will be next, followed by Debut finalizing all of HER music and writing owned by HER and will likely be the most successful woman in the music industry. “Look at how my tears ricochet.” Swift once said. She shows that karma is real and it’s coming back around.
