As an American citizen, it is important to exercise your right to participate in our democratic process by voting. With the 2024 presidential election rapidly approaching, voting may seem like a complicated and overwhelming process, but it is not as intimidating as it may seem.
WHO CAN VOTE?
- As long as you are a US citizen who will be over 18 by election day, meet NJ residency requirements, and have not been convicted of any felonies, you can vote in primary elections.

Mailing in a ballot
- You will have to fill out the Essex County form and get approved.
- When you get approved, fill in the ballot they give you and mail it back, place it in a secure drop box, or return it to the Board of Elections office.
Voting in person at a polling place
- Go to the nearest polling location, and vote using a polling machine
- In NJ, you do not need to show any identification to vote at the polls.
In-person early voting
- It can also be done at a polling location, before the election.
