When one is looking for an activity to do in these autumn months of unpredictable weather, it can be hard to find something you think you’ll enjoy. To ease the hours of searching and searching, here is a compiled list of fall activities around Northern New Jersey.
Fairfield Farms
Fairfield Farms is a perfect place to take part in classic fall activities, such as hayrides, pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and even more fun activities. These fall festival events are available from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the week, and 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends. They offer delicious fall cider and freshly picked “Jersey” apples. They even have a farm store to buy some of the best fall needs. This farm is family-friendly, but some activities, such as their Spooky Trail and nighttime hayrides, recommend parental supervision. Bloomfield Harvest Festival
Less than five miles away from Glen Ridge, Bloomfield Center Alliance will be hosting the Bloomfield Harvest Festival. This festival will occur on October 19th from 12 p.m. through 6 p.m., RAIN or SHINE. At this year’s festival, they will be offering a “Party at the Harvest” area. This is a lineup of multiple local bands and music styles from a previous event called “Party & Dinner Under the Stars on the Main Stage.” They will have a kid’s corner with an assortment of games, bouncy houses, face painting, and many more activities for your little one. There will also be multiple types of food trucks and 75+ vendors hosted by local businesses. It certainly sounds like it has something for everyone.
Canine Halloween Costume Contest
For the dog owners in Essex County, here’s your chance to buy your dog a cute new costume for the annual, “Strut Your Mutt: Canine Halloween Costume Contest.” Celebrate your pet and show off your creativity at the Essex County Brookdale Dog Park, on West Circuit Drive in Montclair, on October 26th. Earn prizes, bond with your pup, and enjoy meeting fellow dog owners. Registration is at 9 a.m. with the parade starting at 9:30. It’s a great way to start a fall morning.
Gardens Aglow
Another Essex County Park Program event is the Gardens Aglow. The event will be held at Essex County Presby Memorial Iris Gardens on 474 Upper Mountain Avenue in Montclair on Friday, October 18th from 6-9 p.m. This free event includes a display of carved botanic and floral Halloween-themed pumpkins created by high school students. The featured jack-o’-lanterns will be lit with candles displayed near the flower beds. Refreshments, entertainment, and activities will be offered. This is a perfect opportunity to light up a fall night.
