When I first heard about Moana 2, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t particularly excited. After scrolling through a sea of negative social media reviews, I braced for disappointment. But, to my surprise, the film exceeded my expectations and turned out to be much more enjoyable than I had anticipated.
While it doesn’t quite live up to the original Moana, the sequel still shines as a solid continuation of the story. The plot takes Moana on a new adventure, as she embarks on a journey to unite people across different islands. This new storyline allows Moana to grow even further, and it is exciting to see her explore more of the world beyond her island.
One of the most heartwarming additions to the movie is Moana’s little sister, who is waiting for her at home. This new family dynamic brings a sweet, emotional element to the story and provides a new layer to Moana’s character as an older sibling. Seeing her take on this role while balancing her adventurous spirit was a nice change.
The music, while not as iconic as the original’s soundtrack, still manages to capture the same essence. While none of the songs are quite as unforgettable as “How Far I’ll Go,” several catchy melodies feel familiar and add to the overall charm of the movie.
Perhaps one of the most unexpected yet delightful moments in Moana 2 is the return of the Kakamora—the coconut pirates from the first film. In a surprising twist, these once-antagonistic characters become Moana’s allies, adding humor and heart to the film.
Moana 2 is a surprisingly strong sequel. While it doesn’t quite surpass its predecessor, it offers an entertaining and heartfelt experience that’s definitely worth watching. With its engaging adventure, sweet character moments, and fun surprises, it’s a movie that fans of the first will likely enjoy.
