The Journalist is starting 2022 off right by honoring another accomplished senior of the month: Ojas Kalra. He is being honored because he is a strong student, engaged and accomplished in many extracurriculars, and a community leader.

Having been a runner for many years, Ojas is on the GRHS Cross Country and Track and Field teams. These teams have given him the opportunity to accomplish impressive feats such as placing 5th in conference for Cross Country. Furthermore, his most meaningful high school experience was being on the Cross Country team because of the “memories I created with my teammates.”

Not only is Ojas engaged in extracurriculars within the high school, he is also making change in the world outside of it. Witnessing the struggle of many of his peers to keep up with academics during Covid-19, he decided to pioneer Virtual Studies, a “volunteer group dedicated to provide free online one-on-one tutoring for elementary/middle school students”. (https://www.virtualstudies.org/). Although just a high school senior, Ojas has already stepped outside of his comfort zone in order to help others and deserves recognition for it.

In college, Ojas hopes to study computer science in math. He has already qualified for the American Invitational Math Exam and got a Silver ranking in USA Computing Olympiad. He is unsure where he will be attending college, but any school would be lucky to have this intelligent and accomplished leader in their student body.
