Hocus Pocus Review

Hocus Pocus Review

Hocus Pocus has been recommended to me a lot over the years and this year I decided to watch the movie and do a review. Hocus Pocus immediately drew my eye from the detail in the Sanderson house and the background story of how they first died. The details on the house were intricate, and even though it was set in a normal forest when we see the outside it looks like its own point in time. I enjoyed a setting that wasn’t the stereotypical witch homes with a black cat, instead, they created one. There is also another setting which is a small town, Salem, like from the Salem witch trials, where the Sanderson sisters died. The story centers on four main characters: Max Dennison, Dani Dennison, Allison, and Binx. Binx is the person who was cleverly turned into the black cat. But that’s just scenery, the real plot and story are the true center of the movie.

The story of Hocus Pocus is somewhat simple:

Emily, a girl, is led to the witch’s house and dies there. When the townspeople find out they burn the witches and send Binx to eternally be a black cat. After that event the storyline moves forward years later to Max Dennison who has a crush on this girl named Allison but he gets rejected. It is Halloween so later he comes across Allison when taking his sister Dani’s trick or treating where she spills a little too much about her brother’s life and opinions. They later go to the Sanderson sisters’ house and from there they try to run everywhere they can to lose them.

With everything in mind, this is definitely one of my favorite movies to watch especially during the spooky Halloween season. Overall, with the scenery, plot, and amazing characters/actors I rate this movie a 9.5 out of ten. The 0.5 was taken off unfortunately because of some awkward scenes I could live without.
