Winter Sports 2018-2019

Winter sports are beginning and many teams are working to match their successful seasons last school year.
Girls basketball, led by captains Jenny Lisovicz and Claire McMahon, finished their season last year with a 15-11
record.

Simon Low and Kevin Matthew are captains for boys basketball who made it to the sectional final last season. The
team advanced to a new conference this year, the Super Essex Colonial Conference, and plan to play more challenging teams.

They will be competing against Christ the King, Irvington, Montclair Kimberley, Newark Tech, Nutley, and University within their division.

Winter track is getting ready for their season. They are most excited to use the recently renovated Hurrell field house.
The most popular events are the 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, and 3200m races. Last year, the girls sprint medley won 6th place at the group I winter track relay championships. They will be attending the Essex County Relays at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island on January 2nd and look forward to competing.

Drew Wolgemuth and Nick Fiorillo will lead the wrestling team this winter. They finished with a 3-14 record last
season. They will be playing at home on January 25th against Millburn.

The Verona- Glen Ridge Ice Hockey team has begun their practice and “looks to play a fast, exciting brand of hockey
this year with many underclassmen earning their way onto varsity ice.” They will be playing Nutley at the Richard J. Codey Arena on January 5th at 5:45 pm.

The GR cheer squad is looking forward to a fun season. They will be attending Girls and Boys home basketball games
to help the spirit of Ridger Nation!

Sam Auborn, Liam Hood, Emma Velardi, and Devin Rank are the captains for the swim team. Last year they had a
good win against MKA, girls winning 107-63 and boys winning 84-70. They attracted many new members and hope to have a good season this year.

The bowling team is looking forward to a fun season. They practice once a week at Garden Palace Lanes.
Good luck to all sports teams in their upcoming seasons!
