Club Spotlight: Key Club

Julia Hegarty, Copy Editor

Key Club is a national student-led high school organization. The Glen Ridge Chapter is very active. Through service, we make the world a better place. Key Club has just completed a very successful Toys for Tots drive. The toys overfilled the box in the school’s front hall.

The New Jersey District of Key Club International has chosen Hunger in NJ as our District Project for the 2019-2020 service year. Our Glen Ridge chapter will be participating by holding food drives to support the New Jersey Federation of Food Banks. The money we fundraise throughout the year will also go to this cause. This includes our bakes sales, spring day booth, and the candy cane gram fundraiser we have going on right now.

We also work closely with the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ridge. About fifteen of our members worked with them in November to collect clothing, food, furniture, housewares, and toys for the needy in the high school parking lot. Another event we help them with is their Octoberfest in the fall. Along with the Kiwanis Club, we volunteer with Montclair State University’s Circle K club members. Like Key Club, Circle K is an international service organization that promotes service and leadership at the collegiate level. We also volunteer at the Ashenfelter and Lager Runs, local nursing homes, and soup kitchens.

Key club is always open to new members who are excited about service and getting more involved in the community! We meet on Tuesday after school in Mr. Levine’s room (room 110). Contact Julia Hegarty if you are interested.
