VGR Skates into Success

The Zoo has been home to Verona-Glen Ridge boy’s hockey for several years, and this year it is seeing a lot of action and even more wins. The team is in the midst of a very successful season. VGR is one of the most lively and well supported teams that Glen Ridge has. Starting off rocky with a loss against Nutley on December 4th, the team worked hard to reevaluate its strategy and build teamwork. It clearly paid off when they won their next three games, against Scotch-Plains Fanwood, Governor Livingston, and Millburn. VGR is looking to continue their impressive record and maintain a steady course of wins. It is a very hopeful goal as they face tougher opponents coming up, but it is one that they can certainly accomplish with their passion and skill.

As proof of one of VGR’s best seasons yet, they made their way up all the way to playing at the Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils. There, they faced the state-ranked team Indian Hills. While the game resulted in an unfortunate loss, goalie Chris Kostas had an impressive 24 saves and the school gathered to support and watch a thrilling game. On February 5, VGR had an exciting Senior Night against Manapalan. Winning 4-2, the Ridgers cheered on Glen Ridge seniors Aidan Brennan, Jeff Egan, Chris Kostas, Noah Martinez, Chandler Otterbein, Ruben Rodriguez, Alec Vecchione, Dylan Gleeson, and Nick Richardson. There is no stopping this motivated team, who has been fueled by several consecutive wins recently. The Ridgers can’t wait to see what’s coming next for them.
