Glen Ridge High School is full of many clubs and activities. One of the many clubs our school has to offer is the Student Council. The Student Council helps our school become a better place; additionally, they host activities for everyone, even those who might not be members. For instance, the most recent activity hosted was the middle school pumpkin painting contest.
The Student Council’s festive pumpkin painting contest began on Tuesday, October 21 and continued until Halloween. Sponsored by the Middle School Student Council and the GR Home and School Association the rules stated that participants must be in either 7th or 8th grade. Winners will be rewarded by receiving points for the Middle School Olympics.
Alice Lee, a 7th-grade student council member, believes this competition is a clever way to encourage students to support both their peers’ creations as well as their own. Alice says that it is a fun way to participate in school activities and compete with others in the Middle School Olympics.
Competitors such as Maddie Sagui and Grace Hyatt have shown a great interest in design and preparation before decorating their pumpkins; however, they have kept their compositions secret until the judgment portion. Both Maddie and Grace, as well as Alice Lee, feel this is an innovative way to compete with their peers and see what they are capable of.
The pumpkin painting contest is a great way to express your creativity and ability to convey emotion with the tip of a paintbrush. You just need a splash of paint and a creative mind!
