Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old poet, mother of three, and recent Minneapolis resident, was fatally shot by an ICE agent on January 7, 2026. After dropping her children off at school, ice agents surrounded the premises. Renee’s wife, Becca Good, confronted an agent, expressing her irritation. Becca jumped in the car and urged Renee to drive. While hastily pushing the pedal, Renee was shot three times and killed in seconds. 
Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old VA Health Care System ICU nurse, was shot by federal agents on January 24, 2026, in Minneapolis during an active protest. Pretti assisted a woman up, who had been shoved to the ground by ICE agents. He was then pepper-sprayed, tackled, disarmed, and finally shot ten times in the back, killing him instantly.
The Trump administration’s immigration policies have affected American citizens, as shown through events such as the tragic deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, which created an awareness of the government’s recent actions. People across the country have begun protesting and expressing their discomfort with the society they live in today.
Ahalya Raghavan and Ellie Hudon recently organized a walkout at 2:00 pm, January 20th. This attracted a group of about 50 people who left their classes and calmly stood in front of the school in dissent against the current administration’s immigration policies. While marching, the protesters held signs such as “Silence = complicity,” “The Wrong Ice is Melting,” and “Abolish ICE,” representing their opinions as they circled the school’s perimeter.
The students involved agreed on a political view and set forth to make their opposition known, regardless of race, gender, culture, or religion.
