When I walked into 23 Skidoo cafe on Carteret Street in Bloomfield, I immediately noticed how at ease and relaxed the vibe of the place was.
From the decor that struck the perfect balance between minimalist and maximalist to the soft but lively chatter coming from the dining room, Skidoo was already rubbing me off the right way. This impression only deepened when I met the staff. For context, I have been at restaurants where the staff have been indifferent or even dismissive of the concerns of patrons. Skidoo’s staff was the opposite. They greeted me the moment I walked in, then they helped me navigate their menu. They were warm and welcoming, which is a strong sign of good leadership and morale at the cafe. They got me seated, brought out my food (A ham and cheese sandwich) very quickly, and seemed to actually enjoy their work. The ambiance of the area they sat me in was also a plus. The other diners were all polite, happy, and mindful of each other.
When they received my sandwich, I immediately noticed how precisely grilled it was. The cheese was melty but not over the top, and the ham was delicious and flavorful but not overwhelming. I quickly ate it, then left the establishment contentedly. Overall, Skidoo gets a solid 4.9 out of 5 from me. It was excellent for a quick stop, which is the intended purpose of their business. However, they should consider expanding their menu even more. Then it will be a true gathering space for a community starved of them.
